Kathryn Bass discovered her love for sewing as a little girl under the guidance and patience of her grandmother.
At some point during the tedious creation of her grad dress (which obviously had to be better than everyone else’s), Kathryn’s teacher suggested she look into attending a fashion school.
Kathryn studied at the Helen Lefeaux School of Fashion Design in Gastown.
The course was a long two-year diploma curriculum packed into a 10 month intensive program.
Kathryn learned many things during this time, including how to design without limitations, sew bias without wrinkles, receive criticism without crying and stay up for unnaturally long periods without sleeping.
Upon graduating from Helen Lefeaux, Kathryn decided to further her education at College Lasalle in Montreal where she completed a three year program in fashion design.
The more relaxed environment allowed her to greatly expand her knowledge of pattern drafting and construction skills.
Although Montreal was a fabulous city, Kathryn was not cut out for the cold weather and also feared for her health due to the deliciousness of the poutine, so she returned home to Vancouver to start her career.
Kathryn currently lives in Vancouver with her supportive husband, impossibly adorable dog Annie, and her most recent additions – her daughter who shares her mom’s love for all things “pretty”, and an infant son who likes shiny things.
Kelsey McIntyre had a passion for clothing and design that began at a very young age, when she started out creating dresses for her Barbies under the tutelage of her mother.
Her designs eventually graduated to dresses and other finery for herself and her friends.
After attending MC College in Edmonton where she graduated at the top of her class in 2002, Kelsey apprenticed at a couture atelier.
She learned to appreciate the finer details that go into a garment – the details that take a garment from a piece of clothing to a piece of art.
While being a design assistant during the day, Kelsey designed her own pieces by night and built up her own style. Slowly but surely she attracted a longer list of clientele until she was ready to venture out on her own.
Kelsey’s love of all things vintage and girly was the inspiration behind her ready-to-wear collection of beautiful dresses, feminine skirts, chic tops and perfectly-fitted pants.
Serendipity appeared on runways in Edmonton, Ottawa and Montreal and in stores across Western Canada before Kelsey made the decision to focus her attention back on couture garments and bridal gowns.
In her (little) free time, Kelsey can be found drinking tea, baking fancy things and looking (unintentionally) like Adele.
One day in late 2014 while Kathryn was very busy, very pregnant and very unsure about how she was going to create more hours in the day, she was Serendipitously (wink) introduced to Kelsey who had decided to give Vancouver a try.
Kathryn and Kelsey quickly realized they made a great team and (after a lot of paperwork) became business partners and continue to happily make pretty things together.
Come meet Kathryn on Saturday, January 13th and Sunday, January 14th! Her collection will be exclusively at DREAM IT YOURSELF for 2 weeks.
